Ysobel

Text font and award-winning typeface in one

The Ysobel typeface released in 2009 was designed by American designer Robin Nicholas. The design was inspired by the soft and rounded Century Schoolbook typeface created in New York at the beginning of the 20th century. Nicholas distinguished her own creation with more striking serifs and terminals. Notable, among other features, are the more open finials of the C, c and e. The proportions of lowercase and uppercase letters in Ysobel are very balanced; the x-height – the regular height of lowercase letters without ascenders – was noticeably raised.

Ysobel is used in newspapers, magazines, catalogues and for job printing. Ysobel is available in text and display versions. The former is available in various stroke widths. The digital variant for headings was designed by the Frenchwoman Alice Savoie.
